The main foundation of the Christian life is predicated upon Christ’s death and resurrection. Apart from Him, there’s absolutely no hope and future for mankind. Christ voluntarily yielded Himself up for us with no reservation, so He’s simply asking us to do the same thing. The massive pain, shame, rejection, and humiliation that He knew He was about to go through didn’t hold Him back from giving His life for us. This is a clear demonstration that His love for us was far stronger and greater than our sins.
When Christ was giving His life, He didn’t focus that much at the sinful condition of humanity but on what humanity could have become through Him if they believed in Him. This clearly gives us the belief that God is able and willing to bring to pass in our lives what Christ’s death was intended to fulfill. After doing all of that, God is expecting something so critical from us in return. Let’s put it in perspective, God has done His part through Christ, now it’s our turn to respond to God through accepting His only begotten Son.
Everything that was needed in order for us to live the kind of life that He desires for us to live has already been put at our disposal. So we are to come to God on the basis of Christ’s death and resurrection. Let’s consider this powerful Scripture verse below.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship (Romans 12:1).
The point is there’s not really something that we can ever give back that would match up Christ’s ultimate sacrifice on the cross. All we can only do in order to show our own appreciation toward what was done on our behalf is to offer ourselves fully to God.
